For carrying out this article Anabel Medina and Consum are donating € 500 in food to ‘Mensajeros de la Paz’ to be distributed among the underprivileged.
For years she has been Spain’s number 1 tennis player. This Valencian who took part in four editions of the Olympic Games -achieving a silver medal in Beijing 2008- has over 15 years’ experience competing behind her, a career that has enabled her to reach number 16 of the world in individuals and number 3 in doubles. A fighter who confronts every game with the strength of a champion.
Here are her five favourites:
BANANAS
This is an essential fruit in our world. It is often used during matches because it has a high potassium content which provides a lot of energy. That’s why it is common to see tennis players eating a banana between sets. Apart from during matches, I’ve also added it to my daily diet.
RICE
As a good Valencian, I love rice in all its forms: dry, meloso, paella, arroz a la cubana... it’s in my blood. It also contains carbohydrates and helps to maintain good digestion, as it is quickly digested. So it’s good for when I have to train in the afternoon.
WALNUTS
Walnuts are an extremely fast energy intake and are very healthy. For an athlete, who must take such good care of their diet, they are perfect. I often use them during training to keep up intensity. They’re also addictive!
SLICED BREAD
Essential for breakfast in the morning. I use it every way and with any ingredient: as toast with cream cheese, turkey, olive oil, etc. With my training routines, it’s important that my breakfast is complete to give me energy for the rest of the day.
EGGS
Eggs contain a lot of protein, which makes them another essential product in my diet. I can eat them all day, either for breakfast (with the sliced bread) or often with salad or for a light dinner. They go with everything!
