The ‘Profit’ programme avoids the wastage of 5.200 tonnes of food in 2016

The efforts of workers and volunteers reach over 200 people and enable to reduce CO2 emissions by 5.200 tonnes

Consum’s `Profit´ responsible food management programme avoided the wastage of 5.200 tonnes of food in 2016. `Profit´’s good management, which enables the utilisation of food that is withdrawn from sale, but which is suitable for consumption, also meant that XXX tonnes of CO2 were prevented from being emitted into the environment, thus reducing its impact on the environment.

The programme, which has been in place in 100% of supermarkets, logistic platforms and escuelas de frescos, reaches over 200 people, thanks to the constant solidarity work by the entities, made up mainly of volunteers, which carry out the project.

The food is collected daily by Cooperative workers and over 200 volunteers from the NGOs and municipal social services. This work is essential for the success of the programme, as it reduces delivery times and aids distribution among people who need it.
