What is the Brigadeiro? This is the unusual name of a Brazilian dessert that is just as delicious as it is easy to make. Also known as negrinho, this sweet, similar in appearance to chocolate truffles, is very popular in Brazil, where it's always tempting children in every house. Although brigadeiro is largely unknown in Spain, when you find out how to make it, you will see how simple it is to include it in different celebrations such as children's birthdays.

Condensed milk, cocoa powder and chocolate noodles are the basic ingredients to make brigadeiro. According to legend, the name 'brigadeiro' comes from the brigadier general of the Brazilian Air Force, Eduardo Gomes, who became famous for stopping a communist revolt in Rio de Janeiro.

To prepare a delicious brigadeiro at home, we bring you the following recipe!

Brigadeiro: what ingredients do we need?

To make brigadeiro, we need these ingredients:

  • 370 g condensed milk
  • 30 g cocoa powder
  • 55 g butter
  • 150g chocolate noodles

The first thing we will do to prepare our brigadeiro is to put all the ingredients, except the chocolate noodles, in a saucepan. Heat the mixture and cook everything while stirring with a spatula for about 10 minutes so that it doesn't stick.

The recipe for brigadeiro as a filling continues as follows: after pouring this mixture into a small tray or mould (which you will have previously greased with butter), cover it with cling film and let it cool in the refrigerator overnight or, if you're in a hurry, you can leave it in the freezer for 3 hours.

Once the dough is solid, make a few balls of about 15-20 grams and cover them with chocolate noodles. Tip: to stop them from sticking to your hands, wet them with water or spread a little butter on them. Finally, leave the brigadeiros to harden in the fridge until you are ready to eat them.

Although it may seem like a simple piece of chocolate, brigadeiro (as you have seen) is a very unique sweet with a soft and creamy texture that contrasts with a crunchy exterior. It also comes in several variations using grated coconut, chocolate pearls, chopped nuts or cocoa powder. It will be a great success at your next party!
