Consum created 1,071 jobs in 2016, reaching a workforce of 13,504 workers. The Cooperative closed the year with a turnover of 2,344 million euros, 10.5% more than the previous year, obtaining results of 46.8 million euros, 20% more.

Investments grew 12.9% to 102.7 million euros, mainly due to the opening of 36 new supermarkets, the improvement of the commercial network and the expansion of the logistics facilities in Catalonia. The year closed with a network of 680 establishments, 436 of its own and 244 Charter. The Cooperative retains its 6th place in the national ranking of distribution companies and has a market sales share of 14.75% in its scope of action.

The workforce reached 13,504 workers, of which 72.2% are women, aged on average 38 years. 94.7% of the workforce enjoys the status of partner, whether permanent or temporary. During the year, 8 million euros were invested in a living wage balancing, equivalent to 596.8 euros per worker. In addition, a salary increase of 1.6% was approved for full time staff at the end of the year.

In 2016, discounts to partners-customers increased by 24.4%, reaching a value of 30.1 million euros. In addition, 2.7 million were reached, placing Consum as the largest Spanish cooperative by number of partners.
Consum maintains its commitment to the local economy: 99.6% of the purchases made by the Cooperative are made from national suppliers and 65.6% from suppliers of the autonomous communities in which it operates.

€ 12.6 million were allocated for partnership projects in 2016, an increase of 37%. As part of these collaborations, the Cooperative implements a Responsible Food Management Profit Programme, which last year donated 5,200 tons of food worth 12 million euros.
It’s good to look after the environment!
Consum’s carbon footprint decreased by 4.8% over the previous year. The Cooperative allocated 8.2 million euros towards environmental investments, including the expansion of the Ecoeficientes supermarket chain, which has reached 75% of the commercial network.
