Many of your daily actions are sure to be done because of and for others almost without realising. But we aren’t aware that our actions, which are often selfless, are the details which make the difference in personal relationships. Here are some tips to think about this and so that from now you are more aware that your actions make others around you feel better.

SHOPPING

• Supermarket favourites: if you are in charge of the weekly shop, remember the chocolate your husband likes so much, or the biscuits your children adore. They are sure to appreciate a little gift.

• Fair trade products: you’re sure to have seen some in the supermarket, such as coffee. Choose them and you’ll contribute to a good cause.

AT HOME

• Don’t throw anything away! Leftover meals are famous in every home. Just as you make the most of leftover vegetables to make croquettes, you can save other kinds of dishes and utilise them to eat at another time. It is important to avoid food wastage.

• Gluten-free: if one of your guests is gluten intolerant, you can adapt your aperitifs and even cakes so that they can eat them too. You just have to find a suitable recipe.

WHEN YOU GET TOGETHER WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY

• Coffee and company: sometimes it is more important to give time and listen to someone who needs you, than the most valuable object of product in the world. When you meet up with someone, avoid interruptions and share 100% of your time.

• Put yourself in their place: we are often unable to understand some situations. But have you put yourself in their place? Empathising helps you to see what really pushed them to act in that way or another.

• Restaurants against hunger: for each solidarity dish you choose in these places, they will give €0.50 to €2 towards the prevention, diagnostic and treatment of malnutrition.

OTHER IDEAS

• Be grateful, it’s that simple. You are sure to be grateful that someone makes your breakfast, leaves you the last piece of omelette, picks you up from work… But do you thank the people who make it possible? A simple show of affection or words of thanks are always welcome.

• Smile: at work, on the bus, in the street… because smiling is good for your health and helps you to empathise with others.

• Give the clothes you don’t use to a charity, there is sure to be someone who will thank you for it.

• On public transport, give your seat to older people, pregnant women or people with reduced mobility.
