Consum increases paid paternity leave to 6 weeks

Workers benefit from two weeks more than as provided by the law.

From the 1st of January 2017, Consum workers benefit from a new reconciliation measure: the increase of paid paternity leave to 6 weeks, two more than what is provided by the law. The Cooperative this improves leave conditions for birth, adoption or fostering that staff already had, fixed at 4 weeks from December 2009.

This pioneering initiative in the sector aims to aid the conciliation of workers’ family and work lives. The Cooperative will bear the cost of the days which exceed the leave established by the law. Consum has around 13,500 workers, of which over 3,600 are men, with an average age of 38 years.
