How to take care of the floor for longer?
The floor is probably one of the areas of the house that suffers the most: footprints from outside, spilled liquids, bumps from falling objects, scratches from dragging chairs or tables, etc. Also, inside a house, it is possible for there to be up to 3 different types of floors, so cleaning the floor often becomes a real headache. The most important thing for a good clean and maintenance is to know how to identify the type of floor and the care it needs.
Ceramic or terrazzo floors
It is one of the strongest and most used floors in homes and offices. Also, over time, they have made more stylish, durable and versatile versions. Both porcelain and terrazzo have many advantages, but also some disadvantages, such as porosity, so they do not absorb water well.
To clean them, you must first use a broom or hoover and then scrub it with a mixture of water and a specific product for this type of floor.
To avoid leaving any product residue, it is best to drain the mop as much as you can, don’t let the scrubber get too soapy and use hot water.
You can clean the joints every so often with an old toothbrush. And once a year, apply a specific product to bleach them and make the floor look like new.
Marble floors
One of the keys to keeping the marble in perfect condition is the frequency with which we clean it and the use of suitable products. First, we must use the broom or mop to remove traces of dust and then fill the mop bucket with at least two litres of water and add the specific amount of product recommended by the manufacturer.
We can also use a mixture of warm water with white wine vinegar to clean this type of floor. The vinegar, as well as disinfecting, will help the marble become brighter.
We must always make sure the mop is very well drained, since marble is a very porous material, so we must avoid absorbing too much liquid.
Wooden floors
To protect the parquet and flooring, it is very important to stop the dirt from building up and penetrating the wood. To do this, we must vacuum, mop or brush with a broom daily for delicate surfaces.
In addition, once or twice a week, scrub the floor with a specific product for parquet flooring. It is important to drain the mop well before using it, since it does not require too much water. For this type of floor, we can use a soap cleaner for wood that will help highlight its natural beauty. Once a month, apply a specialized product to polish the parquet floor.
If any liquid falls in to the parquet, remove it quickly with some absorbent paper. Do not rub it, let the paper absorb the liquid so that it does not penetrate the wood.
Types of mops
• Microfibre: can be made with strands or strips. They offer good wear resistance and have great absorption capacity. They are suitable for all types of floors, but they are especially useful for those types that don’t support moisture well, such as parquet or wooden flooring, because they allow faster drying.
• Cotton: It is usually made of strands and its handling is somewhat heavier than those of microfibres. They are ideal for cleaning hard floors, such as marble or tiled. You must drain them very well so that they don’t leave a trace.
• Sponge Mop: This type of mop is slightly moistened to drag the common dirt from the floors such as dust and fibres. It is also used to dry and polish floors, when it is dry and clean. It is ideal for the daily maintenance of wooden floors.
