Have it from a bottle and cool off from the heat of the day, enjoy it in the pool or on the beach, after dinner or have it when you wake up on an empty stomach, lemonade is one of summer’s most sought-after drinks. Do you want to make it?

The basis of the recipe is simple: water and lemon, but not all lemonades taste the same. Proportions, garnishes and the occasional ‘secret touch’ make a difference. Here are some ideas to create your own recipe.

Lemonade Recipe for 4 people

Ingredients:

300ml lemon juice (4 or 5 squeezed lemons)

100g sugar or sweetener

500ml water

- 500g of ice

- Mint

Method

1. Make a lemon syrup by heating the sugar and water in a saucepan over low heat. This will allow it to dissolve and it won’t sink to the bottom of the jar. For extra flavour, you can add some lemon peel to this syrup.

2. Once all the sugar has dissolved, let it cool in the bottom of a large jug, which we will use to store and serve it. If you have added lemon peel, remove it.

3. A continuación, añadimos el zumo de limón. El hielo se añade en el momento de servir y se integra bien con la mezcla. Next, add the lemon juice. Add ice on serving and stir it in.

4. Garnish with mint.

Serving and storage

It is recommended to let it cool in the fridge for at least a couple of hours, but if time is short, freshly made with crushed ice will still be very cool. A slice of lemon, a well-chosen glass or jug and a straw give a retro touch to go with the summer months.

If there is any left over, or you want to save some for later, it will keep well in the fridge for 2 to 3 days. It is advisable to put it in a sealed bottle.

You can also put any leftover lemonade in the freezer for 3 to 4 hours, stirring every so often, in order to get a delicious lemon slush. Using some moulds and wooden sticks you can make the most of the remaining drink to prepare lemon ice lollies.
