Until a few days ago, most people washed their hands quickly, hardly paying attention to it. But since the spread of Coronavirus pandemic, hygiene measures have been stepped up, especially for hands.

Respiratory viruses, such as coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), are spread through mucous membranes. They can enter through the eyes, nose, and mouth. This probability is quite high, since almost without us realising it our hands are in constant contact with our face, which explains how the virus can be passed from person to person.

How the WHO advises us to wash our hands

One of the best ways to prevent this infection is to wash your hands frequently with soap and water. Yes! A simple thing like that can protect us. But do you know how to wash your hands properly? Take note:

  1. Wet your hands with running water.
  2. Apply enough soap to cover your hands.
  3. Rub the soap all over the surface: palms, between the fingers, thumbs and backs. Continue the routine for at least 20 seconds.
  4. Rinse well with running water.
  5. Dry your hands with a clean cloth or a single-use towel.

How much time should I spend washing my hands?

We recommend continuing the washing routine for 20 to 30 seconds. A simple way to measure this is to sing the whole Happy Birthday song twice.

With regard to hydro-alcoholic disinfectant gel, it is important that it contain at least 60% alcohol. As for the time, we also recommend rubbing it on your hands for at least 20 seconds.
