Savoury snacks, ready at any time of the day

For dinner with friends, while watching football, or just for a snack ... Savoury snacks, also known as aperitifs, are a product consumed at many family gatherings, although they are also enjoyed between meals, because they temporarily appease the feeling of hunger.

TRIED AND TESTED

We can find them fried, baked, with different flavours and aromas. All of these characteristics make them a very tempting product for many, to the point of not being able to resist eating them whenever they see them.

Their high carbohydrate content makes these snacks very high-energy products, with the notable exception of those that use potato starch instead of potato slices because of their lower caloric content.

WITH OLIVE OIL

These are the 'premium' appetisers, as they are made with the most prized oil today, thanks to its many health benefits. They offer a very powerful and characteristic flavour and aroma and are usually presented in the form of French fries. Being fried in olive oil, the fats they offer are 'good', that is, they have health benefits because of their composition of fatty acids and natural antioxidants.

WITH NO ADDED SALT

Salt-free products are a great friend to anyone with hypertension, offering the same taste as traditional ones, but with a very small amount of salt. They are usually made with sunflower oil.

“LIGHT”

These are snacks in which the number of kilocalories per 100 grams has been significantly reduced compared to a traditional product. This reduction can be achieved by minimising the fat in the final product, introducing fibre into the recipe or by making more significant changes, such as replacing the potato with potato flour. They are usually labelled as having at least 30% less fat than the traditional product.

JUST A TOUCH OF SALT

For those who cannot live without salt, this is their favourite product. It gives an extra touch of salt to the aperitif, but without going too far.

Current legislation establishes that these products can have up to a maximum of 5% of salt per dry substance.

IN DIFFERENT FLAVOURS

Country recipe, cheese and onion, ham... This is the flavoured version of crisps, although we can find more and more in other types of snacks like nachos or pretzels. Normally based on potatoes or derivatives, they contain added aromas that contribute that special touch that many love.

CORN-BASED SNACKS

These are snacks, usually fried, which have corn flour as their main ingredient. Due to their vegetable-based processing, the saturated fat content is higher than with the other snacks. On the other hand, the salt content does not usually exceed 2.5%. The best known are: cones, nachos or hoops.

The difference between these and popcorn snacks, which are also made with corn flour, is the type of preparation, since the latter are prepared with sunflower oil and baked, reducing the saturated fat content.
