What is golden milk?
Have you ever heard people talk about golden milk? This drink, originating from India has gained supporters thanks to its health benefits. Golden milk is a milk-based or plant-based drink with different spices but, above all, with a mixture of cinnamon and turmeric that give it anti-inflammatory properties and also help us to fall asleep.
Bearing in mind that turmeric is the main ingredient of this infusion, we can take advantage of all of this spice’s properties: anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antioxidants.
In addition, it is a drink which comes highly recommended in famous anti-inflammatory diets, precisely because it helps to improve digestion and gastrointestinal complaints.
You should drink golden milk warm and freshly made because it is much more comforting than drinking it cold, although you can also make it like that if you prefer.
Ingredients for golden milk
- 2 cups semi-skimmed milk or a plant-based drink
- 1 tablespoon powdered turmeric
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 2 grains black pepper
- 1 teaspoon chopped or ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 2 cloves
- 3 dates (we can substitute them for syrup or maple syrup to sweeten)
Method for golden milk
- Heat the milk in a saucepan with the cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom, pepper and chopped or ground ginger.
- Lower the heat before it reaches boiling point, add the turmeric and stir well.
- Leave it to cook on a very low heat for 5 minutes.
- Add the dates and grind. If you don’t want to grind them, you can sweeten the mixture with honey or syrup.
- Strain and serve.
- Before serving, sprinkle with a little cinnamon powder.
