For their collaboration in this article, Itziar Miranda and Consum have donated 500€ to Banco de Alimentos de Valencia.

Itziar Miranda is an actress and writer, principally known for having played Manolita Sanabria in the series Amar en tiempos revueltos (Love in Difficult Times) and Amar es para siempre (Love is Forever). She combines her interpretative side with her literature and, along with her brother Jorge Miranda, she has published the «Miranda Collection», a series of stories about extraordinary women, and the  «Miranda y Tato» saga, which addresses the Sustainable Development Objectives (SDO) that the UN believes need to be reached by 2030.

Here are her «five of»:

OLIVE OIL

EVOO is never missing at home. Mainly because of its organoleptic properties, that is, its aroma and flavour. Also because it is cardio protective. It is a very stable fat for cooking and therefore very good for health because it doesn’t go off. A drizzle of good olive oil will elevate any dish.

ANCHOVIES

Anchovies are spectacular on their own or on a toast with tomato. An aperitif that gets you off the hook at any get-together. I sometimes add them to a sauce like a putanesca. Pure umami.  On top of that, they have omega 3, which is anti-inflammatory, among many other things.

PISTACHIOS

They drive me crazy. They are very nutritious and are the perfect snack. They reduce stress, which is always a good thing, and are antioxidants. They are also one of the nuts with the most fibre and energy, and the lowest calorie content. Almost perfect!

TOMATO

There are always some at home, particularly in the summer. In winter, we look for varieties with flavour, such as cherry or raf. The trick is to keep them out of the fridge for them to be really tasty.  We eat them by the kilo!

LEGUMES

I love soups and stews because they are comforting, they make you feel homely. Legumes are economical and high in plant protein, which makes them more sustainable, nourishing and very rich in fibre.
